He appeared in 47 games and scored eight times as United comfortably won a second straight Premier League crown. His performances for both Man. United and England saw Beckham finish second in the FIFA World Player of the Year award voting.
1998-99: A magical season that saw Beckham shake off all the doubters and ill will that carried over from his World Cup sending off, as he helped United win the Treble for the first time, claiming the Premier League title, as well as the FA Cup and the European Cup. He played in 52 games that year, scoring nine times, including once in the Premier League finale that saw United erase a 1-0 deficit to claim a 2-1 win over Tottenham to send the Premiership trophy back to Manchester. Six days after winning the league, Beckham played all 90 minutes as United took the FA Cup, defeating Newcastle 2-0. Those two wins would set the stage for the Champions League Final at the Nou Camp in Barcelona. United trailed 1-0 heading into stoppage time, but went on to score a pair of goals, each set up by a Beckham corner kick, to win the European Cup for the first time since 1968.

He finished the season with eight goals in all competitions, including the game-winner in the FA Cup Semifinal against Chelsea on March 31. Just under a month later, Beckham had his first multi-goal game, scoring twice in a 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest on 4/28 as United all but clinched another Premier League title.

International
Has been capped a total of 94 times over ten years by England, scoring 17 goals in that time, including at least one tally in each of the last three FIFA World Cups. He is the only England player ever to have scored in three separate World Cups and was just the 21st player in history to have done so. His 94 caps are the fifth most in history by an England player with more than 50 of those coming as the National Team captain.
2006: Beckham played eight games for England, starting all of them, including five games at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. His performance helped England to first round wins over Paraguay and Trinidad & Tobago and a draw with Sweden to clinch first place in the group. In the Second Round, Beckham etched his name in the annals of England history, scoring the only goal in a 1-0 win, making him the only player in team history to have scored in three consecutive World Cups. However, in England's next game, it was eliminated, again by Portugal on penalties, from the World Cup. Following the tournament, Beckham resigned the captaincy, ushering in a new era of English soccer.
2005: Again helped England reach a major tournament, playing in nine games, including five World Cup qualifiers as England clinched a spot at the 2006 World Cup in Germany. Beckham's only goal of the year came on March 30 in a 2-0 win over Azerbaijan that moved the nation one step closer to its third consecutive World Cup appearance.
2004: Played in and started 12 games, scoring twice on the year. He played in all four of England's games at Euro 2004 in Portugal as well as in a selection of World Cup qualifiers and friendlies. He played a staring role in the heart of the England attack that scored 10 goals in four games in Portugal but was knocked out of the tournament by the hosts on penalties in the quarterfinals.
2003: Was again at the heart of the England team as it continued its quest for Euro 2004 qualification. He played in nine games, including five qualifiers as England again booked passage to a major tournament by winning its group. Beckham scored four times in those nine contests, with three of his goals coming in qualifiers.
2002: Made nine appearances in an England uniform, despite missing time with a broken bone in his foot. He was able to return to the lineup in time for the start of the World Cup in Japan/Korea and played in all five of England's games. In the second group game, Beckham laid to rest any potential demons by scoring the goal that all but eliminated nemesis-Argentina from the tournament. England would reach the knockout stages of the tournament but could only get to the quarterfinals before being eliminated by eventual champion Brazil. Following the World Cup, he helped get England's attempt at qualification for the 2004 European Championships, scoring in each of his team's first two games.
2001: He maintained his title as captain, appearing in and starting all 10 of England's games, including six World Cup qualifiers. He scored five goals on the year, but none are more famous than the one he scored on October 6 at Old Trafford. Trailing Greece 2-1, despite assisting on a Teddy Sheringham goal earlier in the game, and needing at least a draw to book a spot in the World Cup, Beckham famously scored on a second half stoppage time freekick, sending his country back to the World Cup.
2000: Was in the lineup for 10 of England's 11 games on the year, including all three games in Euro 2000 and the country's first qualifier for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. In England's second game at Euro 2000, Beckham helped set up Alan Shearer for the game's only goal as England beat Germany in a major tournament for the first time since the 1966 World Cup Final. In the final game of the year, a friendly against Italy in Turin, caretaker manager Peter Taylor named Beckham the National Team captain for the first time.
1999: Played in seven games for his country, helping England qualify for the 2000 European Championships. He played the full 90 minutes in each of England's matches against Scotland in a playoff for one of the final tournament berths.
1998: Was named in England's World Cup squad and made his France '98 debut in the team's second game against Romania, coming off the bench in a 2-1 loss. He was inserted into the starting lineup for England's final group game against Colombia and he scored his first-ever goal for his country, in his 17th appearance, with a curling freekick in the 29th minute, giving England a 2-0 lead and eventual victory. He was again in the starting XI for the Second Round game against Argentina where he was dramatically sent off early in the second half as England were eliminated on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
1997: Made nine appearances as England won its World Cup qualifying group to book a place at the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. He played the full 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Italy at the Olimpico Stadium in Rome that clinched England's first World Cup berth in eight years.
1996: He made his debut for England at the age of 21 on Sept. 1, 1996, in a World Cup qualifier against Moldova.
