Steps:
- This is a simple passing and trapping drill that can be expanded into an advanced passing and trapping drill. Basically the players are passing and trapping in a square pattern while using the cones as obstacles (i.e. pressure).
- Both players start a few feet behind their cones and to one side. The Red player passes along that side of the cone to the Yellow player (#1). The Yellow player then performs a trap across to the other side of the cones (#2) and then passes back to the Red player (#3). The Red player then performs the same trap (#4) and repeats the drill. Switch direction after 5-10 passes each.
- The coach should specify which trap to use for each set. Remember to make each player trap and pass with each foot before moving on to a new set. Traps you can use for this drill: inside foot, outside foot, cruyff, stop n roll. Passes you can use for this drill: outside foot, inside foot, chip.
- To make this drill more difficult you can encourage your players to stay as close to the cones as possible and force them to play as quickly as possible. Make sure passes are firm and game realistic.
Setup:
- 2 players
- 1 ball, 2 cones.
Variations:
- Vary the type of trap and pass each player uses.
- Stay closer to the cones on traps and passes.
- Players race to 20 passes.
Tips:
- Review the basic passing and trapping techniques in our drills archive. This drill works on the fundamentals and coaches should reinforce good passing and trapping habits.
