Steps:
- Set up two cones about 25-30 yards out from goal, each cone in line with the goal post. Make one of the cones about 2 yards closer to the goal than the other one. Line up the attacker with a ball at the cone closer to goal and line up two defenders at the other cone.
- The object of this drill, once the whistle is blown, is for the attacking player with the ball to dribble at the goal with speed while the two defenders are chasing the attacking player down. The attacking player needs to make the decision whether to try to score by shooting the ball or by dribbling past him. Meanwhile, the defenders are trying get between the attacking player and the goal to prevent the attacker from scoring.
Setup:
- Set up 2 cones about 25-30 yards out from goal, each cone in line with the goal post (Make one of the cones about 2 yards closer to the goal than the other one) - 4 players: (1 attacker, 2 defenders, 1 goalkeeper)
Variations:
- To make this drill more challenging for the attacker, make the starting point for both the attacker and the defenders even with each other.
Tips:
- If the goalie remains on his goal line, the attacker will most likely be looking to shoot the ball
- If the goalie comes off his line beyond the 6 yard box, the attacker will most likely beat the keeper by dribbling past him or chipping him depending on how far out of goal the goalkeeper is.
