Steps:

  1. Divide the players into two groups, one group of two defenders (red) and one group of two attackers (yellow).
  2. To begin play, one of the defenders (red) will play a diagonal ball to one of the attackers (yellow). The defenders (red) are not allowed to pressure the attackers (yellow) until one of the attackers (yellow) touch the ball. Once the attackers (yellow) have the ball they are attempting to get past the two defenders (red) to the other end of the grid.
  3. If the defenders (red) win the ball or force the attackers (yellow) out of bounds, the play is over. If the attackers (yellow) get past the defenders (red) they win. Keep score, defenders (red) vs. attackers (yellow); best of ten.
  4. The goal of this drill is for the defenders (red) to put full pressure on the two attackers (yellow) at all times, not allowing them any space to dribble or time to get there heads up to make any decisions.

Setup:

  • Set up a grid 15x20 yards.
  • 4 players: (2 attackers (yellow), 2 defenders (red))

Variations:

  • Close the ball down quickly not allowing the attacker time to get his head up.
  • When defending, bend your knees and keep your body low, feet in a staggered stance (one leg behind the other), and stay on the balls of your feet. This will allow you the change direction quickly.
