Near Post Shot-Blocking Drill

Goalkeeping Drills - Shot Blocking Drills
Written by Matt Friedman Monday, 07 April 2008

Steps:

  1. Line up 4-5 balls in a row 10 yards from the near post and at a good shooting angle. Place 3-4 cones in a row from the near post out towards the balls. Finally place one flag on the six yard box in line with the near post. See the video for help setting up the drill.
  2. The goalkeeper starts the drill by running through the cones and prepares for a shot. The coach simply shoots between the near post and the flag for the keeper to save.
  3. Repeat each step until all of the balls have been shot.

Setup:

  • 2 players (1 Coach, 1 Goalkeeper).
  • Set of cones, and balls.
  • 1 flag.

Tips:

  • Watch the video for proper technique.
