Triangle Pass Drill

Ball Control Drills - Passing Drills
Sunday, 09 December 2007

Steps:

  1. Player without the ball stands behind the cone at the top of the triangle. The player with the ball stands across from them 7-10 yards away.
  2. Play begins when the player without the ball jogs to either one of the cones in the triangle. As the player jogs to the cone, the player with the ball passes the ball on the ground with the inside of their foot toward the cone the player is running toward. Once the player meets the ball at the cone, they will pass it back with the inside of their foot to the player who started with the ball.
  3. Once the player has passed the ball back, they then back peddle to the original starting point, around the cone, and repeat the process at the other cone. After 30 seconds to 1 minute have the players switch.

Setup:

  • Cones set up in a triangle formation 3 yards apart
  • Two players, (One with the ball)

Variations:

  • You can use this drill to also work on passing the ball with the outside of the foot, volleys, headers, or any combinations of the above.

Tips:

  • Positioning: Start at an angle to the ball.
  • Approach: Your approach to the ball will vary based on the type of pass being made.
  • Alignment: Your body and plant foot should be pointed in the same direction that you approached. Place your plant foot anywhere from even with the ball to slightly behind it at a distance of 6-8 inches from the ball. Lock your ankle in a down position with both knees slightly bent. Use your arms for balance and lean slightly back. Keep your eyes focused on the ball.
