Long Ball - Lofted Pass

Ball Control Drills - Passing Drills
Sunday, 09 December 2007

Steps:

The lofted pass is used when you need to pass the ball over your opponent to another teammate.

Steps:

  1. Positioning: Start at an angle to the ball.
  2. Approach: Your approach to the ball will vary based on the type of pass being made.
  3. Alignment: Your plant foot should point away from the target and your body should lean mostly on your plant leg. Place your plant foot slightly behind the ball at a distance of 8-10 inches and bend your plant leg. Point your kicking foot downwards and rotate your kicking leg in towards the ground. This should position the inside of your foot downards. Use your arms for balance and lean slightly back. Keep your eyes focused on the ball.
  4. Contact: Swing your leg (slightly bent) in a sweeping motion so that your kicking foot brushes the ground under the ball. You are aiming for the lower half of the ball with the top part of your kicking foot.
  5. After Contact: Swing your kicking leg straight through the ball towards your target while bearing most of your weight on your plant leg.

Tips:

  • Make sure your stance is open and that you lean towards your plant leg. This will help you create enough room for your foot to sweep underneath the ball. Remember to keep your eyes focused on the ball.
