Steps:

  1. This is a simple passing and trapping drill that can be expanded into an advanced passing and trapping drill.
  2. The two Red players remain at their cones at all times and serve balls to the Yellow players. The Yellow players return the balls served to them and then run to the opposite cone for another pass. This continues until the coach switches the drill.
  3. This is a great drill because it has many variations. Start off with basic one touch passing. The Red players begin by passing to their respective Yellow players simultaneously (#1). Each Yellow player returns the pass (#2) then runs to the other side (#3) where the process is repeated. Timing is important. Each player should try to weigh their passes and time their runs so they arrive at the same time as their partner.
  4. Here are some ideas you can use for this drill: one touch (ground), two touch (ground), one touch instep (air), one touch side foot (air), two touch anything (air), one touch head, two touch head only, two touch thigh foot, two touch feet only, two touch chest foot, three touch chest thigh foot, etc. You can see there are endless combinations. Coaches should progress from basic to advanced skills throughout this drill.

Setup:

  • 4 players
  • 2 balls, 4 cones.
  • 8 x 8 grid.

Variations:

  • Vary the type of trap and pass each player uses.

Tips:
