Steps:

  1. From this setup the kicker has the option of using the screen by shooting directly through or shooting a normal shot on goal. The idea is to keep the goalie guessing. As the diagram shows it is also good to setup with two kickers (one right and left footed) so that the goalie does not know who is going to take the shot. Each kicker has the option to shoot the ball to the far post or shoot the ball to the near post

Tips:

  • It is very important to have specialists in the team who are good at shooting directly on goal. Keeping in mind the distance from the goal, shooting directly from a free kick can be carried out using:
    • The inside or outside instep, which allows you to bend the trajectory as well as giving fairly good power (this is the most usual choice).
    • The instep, which gives you a straight trajectory but with excellent power. To make the best possible use of a direct free kick, it is also important to use other players in support of the one who is actually kicking. When shooting from close to the limits of the penalty area, it is a good idea to put at least two players beside the last player in the wall to disturb the keeper's vision.
