1, 2, 3 Juggling Game Drill Diagram
Steps:
- This juggling game can be played by 2 or more players who have learned basic juggling skills.
- The rules of the game are best described with an example. Player A starts the game with a toss to Player B and shouts the number 3. Player B takes two touches with his/her thigh and then on his/her 3rd touch passes back to Player A and shouts the number 2. Player A now has two touches to pass the ball to another player while shouting 1, 2 or 3 as the ball is passed. The game continues until a mistake is made. The player who makes a mistakes receives one strike and starts the next round with a toss to any player. Players are eliminated after 3 strikes and the game continues until there is only one player remaining.
- Common mistakes: shouting a number too late, shouting a number other then 1, 2, or 3, forgetting to shout a number, making a bad pass, using the incorrect ammount of touches, not making an effort to keep the ball up, and spiking players with passes.
- This is meant to be a friendly game so passes and tosses should not be spiked at another player and the coach should encourage everyone to work together to keep the ball up and be honest. If someone purposely avoids the pass or doesn't at least make an effort to keep the ball up then they should receive a strike.
- If there is a dispute between two players you can simply do the round over, have the group vote on the matter, or use a face-off. A face-off is a 1 touch only juggling duel between the two players. First to make a mistake receives the strike.
Setup:
- 2 or more players.
- 1 or more balls.
- Small practice area.
Variations:
- If players are having a difficult time juggling then you can allow each player one or more bounces before and/or after they receive the ball.
- Limit their space to a marked grid to add difficulty.
- Limit where the players can juggle to ball (feet only, head only, weak side only, etc).
Tips:
- Review the basic juggling techniques in our drills archive. This drill works on the fundamentals and coaches should reinforce good habits.
- Encourage players to work together to keep the ball up and be honest when they feel they've made a mistake.
