Defending Drills - Individual Defending Drills

Steps:

  1. Both players start at midfield.
  2. Player one (yellow) dribbles the ball toward the end line while player two (blue) tracks backward (while facing player one- yellow) in a defensive stance, trying to maintain a good defensive position.
  3. Once both players reach the end line they switch roles.

Setup:

  • Half soccer field or equal vent size.
  • Two players, 1 offensive (with ball), 1 defensive

Variations:

  • Add another defender to track back behind the first defender.
  • Require defender switch up his defensive stance, showing the offensive player both inside and outside.

Tips:

  • Concentrate on defensive positioning.
  • Stay in a low, staggered stance and on your toes at all times.
  • Always keep your eye on the ball.
  • Don’t be more than 2-3 yards away from the offensive player.
