Steps:
- Start with two attackers (red) at one end line and one defender (yellow) with the ball at the other end line. Play begins when the defender (yellow) with the ball passes it to the attackers (red) at the other end line.
- Once the defender (yellow) passes the ball, he should immediately try to close down the two attackers (red) who received the ball and steal the ball back. The attacker (red) with the ball is trying to work together to get past the defender (yellow) and to the opposite end line without having the ball stolen.
- If the defender steals (yellow) the ball, he gets a point. If the two attackers (red) with the ball make it past the defender (yellow) and to the opposite end line, they get a point. Once the play is over, repeat the drill with new players.
Setup:
- Set up a grid 10x20 yards
- 3 players: (2 attackers (red), 1 defender (yellow))
Tips:
- Close the ball down quickly not allowing the attacker time to
- get his head up.
- Make sure the defender can see both the defenders. As a defender, don’t fully commit to really allowing the attacker to play a ball in behind which would allow the other attacker to run on to it.
- When defending, bend your knees and keep your body low, feet in a staggered stance (one leg behind the other), and stay on the balls of your feet. This will allow you the change direction quickly.
