Steps:

  1. Start with two players at each end line. Play begins when the player with the ball (yellow) passes it to the player at the other end line (red).
  2. Once the player passes the ball (yellow), they immediately try to close down the player who received the ball (red) and steal the ball back. The player with the ball (red) is trying to get past the defender (yellow) and to the opposite end line without having the ball stolen.
  3. If the defender (yellow) steals the ball, he gets a point. If the player with the ball (red) makes it past the defender (yellow) and to the opposite end line, he gets a point. Once the play is over the next two players in line repeat the drill.

Setup:

  • Set up a grid 10x20 yards
  • 4 players: (2 attackers (red), 2 defenders (yellow))

Tips:

  • Close the ball down quickly not allowing the attacker time to get his head up.
  • When defending, bend your knees and keep your body low, feet in a staggered stance (one leg behind the other), and stay on the balls of your feet. This will allow you the change direction quickly.
