Steps:

  1. Start with the two players in grid. One is the defender (yellow) and one is the attacker (red).
  2. Play begins when someone from outside the grid passes the ball to the attacker (red) in the grid. At this point the defender (yellow) is trying to steal the ball from the attacker (red) and prevent the attacker (red) from scoring. The attacker (red) is trying to score anyway he can by passing the ball though any side of the goal.
  3. If the defender (yellow) steals the ball or kicks it out of the grid, he is awarded a point, if the attacker (red) scores through any side of the goal, the attacker (red) is awarded a point and then play starts from a pass from the outside the grid to begin again. The two players in the grid should play 1v1 for about 1-2 minutes. After the time is up, rotate new players in.

Setup:

  • Set up a grid 10x10 yards with a square of cones 1x1 yard in the middle of the grid
  • 2 players: (1 attacker (red), 1 defender (yellow))

Tips:

  • When defending, bend your knees and keep your body low, feet in a staggered stance (one leg behind the other), and stay on the balls of your feet. This will allow you the change direction quickly.
