Steps:

  1. The object of this drill is for players to start off by dribbling around in the grid. Once the coach blows the whistle and yells out a skill, the players execute that skill until they are told to stop. (Usually about 20-30 seconds) Skills: 360 -- Push ball forward, stop it with the sole of one foot while stepping past it, turn and drag ball back with sole of other foot, continue turning all the way around and take the ball with the inside of the first foot. Kick Over ball -- Kick over ball with the sole of your foot and then pull it back with the sole of the same foot and change direction. Inside-Outside—touch the ball with the outside of your foot, then bring it back across your body with the inside of the same foot in order for you to touch the ball with the outside of the opposite foot and bring it back across your body with the inside of that same foot. Then repeat.

Setup:

  • Set up a grid, the size of the grid will be based on the number of players you have
  • 20x20 yards recommended for 10-12 players

Tips:

  • Coaches Points: Once you get comfortable, try to keep your head up so you can see where you are going and you are not running into other players.
  • You should try to make every step you take a touch on the ball.
  • These drills are very helpful to train your feet and improve on your touch as well as learning new ways to control the ball.
  • These kinds of footwork drills are very important in order to build a good technical foundation as a player.
