Steps:
- The object of this drill is for players to start off by dribbling around in the grid. Once the coach blows the whistle and yells out a skill, the players execute that skill until they are told to stop. (Usually about 20-30 seconds) Skills: Cruyff -- Push the ball forward, fake a pass or a shot, then pull ball behind the standing leg and change directions. Stepover – While dribbling, step over the ball with one foot, then take the ball with either the inside of your foot across your body of with the outside of your foot away from your body. Scissors – While dribbling the ball, with the ball in the middle of your body, step over the ball first with one foot and then with the other foot and then make a decision to cut the ball across your body and change direction or with the outside of your foot to change direction.
Setup:
- Set up a grid, the size of the grid will be based on the number of players you have
- 20x20 yards recommended for 10-12 players
Tips:
- Coaches Points: Once you get comfortable, try to keep your head up so you can see where you are going and you are not running into other players.
- You should try to make every step you take a touch on the ball.
- These drills are very helpful to train your feet and improve on your touch as well as learning new ways to control the ball.
- These kinds of footwork drills are very important in order to build a good technical foundation as a player.
