Steps:

  1. The object of this drill is for players to start off by dribbling around in the grid. Once the coach blows the whistle and yells out a skill, the players execute that skill until they are told to stop. (Usually about 20-30 seconds) Skills: Inside Roll -- Roll the ball across your body from outside to inside with sole of the foot and repeat this motion down the field. Outside Roll -- Roll the ball across your body from inside to outside with the outside and sole of the foot and repeat this motion down the field. Side to Side -- Tap ball back and forth with inside of your feet. As you get comfortable with this drill see if you can lift your head so your not looking at the ball as you tap it back a fourth. Toe Touches –Tap the top of the ball with the soles of your feet while alternating between your left and right foot. See if you can lift your head so you’re not looking at the ball once you feel comfortable.

Setup:

  • Set up a grid, the size of the grid will be based on the number of players you have
  • 20x20 yards recommended for 10-12 players

Tips:

  • Coaches Points: Once you get comfortable, try to keep your head up so you can see where you are going and you are not running into other players.
  • You should try to make every step you take a touch on the ball.
  • These drills are very helpful to train your feet and improve on your touch as well as learning new ways to control the ball.
  • These kinds of footwork drills are very important in order to build a good technical foundation as a player.
