Footwork and Diving Drill 1

Goalkeeping Drills - Diving Drills
Written by Jamil Walker Monday, 07 April 2008

Steps:

  1. Line up 4-5 balls in a row at the top of the box on one half of the goal. Place 3-4 flags about 1 yard apart starting from the near post out to the 6 yard box and place one large cone in the center of the goal on the 6 yard line.  See the video for help setting up the drill.
  2. The drill starts with the goalkeeper running through the flags and preparing for a shot. The coach simply shoots anywhere inside of the center cone on goal for the keeper to save. Try to aim as close to the cone as possible to make the keeper fully extend on the dive. If you feel that the keeper is anticipating this shot you can diguise it and try to hit a ball closer to the flags.
  3. Repeat until all of the balls have been shot.

Setup:

  • 2 players (1 Coach, 1 Goalkeeper).
  • Set of flags, and balls.
  • 1 Large cone.

Tips:

  • Watch the video for proper technique.
