Halftime Coaching Responsibilities

After the first half of the game you should find a meeting place for your team to rest and talk. If it is extremely hot or raining you should find some shelter for your team. Have your players sit down and rest while they drink plenty of fluids. Halftime is also about reviewing your teams’ first half performance. Based on your assessment you should make any necessary tactical adjustments and encourage your team for the next half.

At the conclusion of the game you and the team should shake hands with the officials and the opposing team. This teaches your kids about sportsmanship regardless of the result and develops good habits. After this you should sit your players down and have them rest while they drink some fluids. It is also a good idea to get your players in the habit of a cool down after each game.

As a coach your job is to try and motivate your players to come practice all the time. You should instill in each player that soccer is a team sport and in order for the team to do well each player must participate in practice. You should also explain to your players that by coming to practice they will become better players and have fun while doing so.

To get yourself and your team ready for the game you should ensure everyone arrives well before the match starts. The amount of time needed to prepare for the game will depend on the age and can range from 20 to 90 minutes before kick off. This time is used to get everyone mentally and physically ready to play the game.
