Attacking Combo Revisted

Description

This is a video demonstration of Third Man Run #2. The passing sequence begins when the 1st forward makes a checking run towards the right mid who has the ball. If you pause the video at 0:03s you can see the opposing defender has to respect this run and follow the first attacker. As the pass is arriving, the 1st forward leaves the ball for the 2nd forward and starts to spin out of the checking run into the space behind the defense. The defender has little chance to keep up since he thinks the 1st forward is going to trap the ball and has to slow down for a split second. Not only does he slow down in anticipation of a trap but he also can't recover quickly because he is more focused on the ball traveling past and not the run. This creates the window necessary for the 2nd forward to play a ball into the space for the 1st forward. The play is finished off with a great volley for a goal. This same attacking combo can be used further away from goal to open up breakaway opportunities. Professional forwards work on these type of combos with their midfielders often in practice to perfect the timing of runs and types of passes that can be made. I encourage you to do the same and try this combo out in your next practice and game. Good Luck!
