GK Crossing Warm-up drill
Goalkeeping Drills - Ball Handling Drills
Wednesday, 12 December 2007
Steps:
- Start with the goalkeeper in a full size goal a few yards off of his/her goal line and a player with the ball close to the sideline or in an area where he/she can cross the ball into the 18-yard box box.
- This warm-up drill begins when the field player with the ball crosses the ball into the 18-yard box. The goalkeeper assesses the ball and puts himself/herself into a position where he/she can catch the ball out of the air. Note: This is a warm-up drill for the goalkeeper to work on adapting a good starting position, assessing the ball, and catching it out of the air.
Setup:
- 2 players (1 Field Player, 1 Goalkeeper)
Tips:
Crosses
Step 1
- Put yourself in a good starting position (this all depends on where the ball is being crossed from).
Step 2
- When the ball is in flight then you must open up your body to the ball and asses the ball while it is in the air.
Step 3
- Yell out and let people know it’s your ball.
- Try to catch the ball out of the air at the highest point so if someone where there attacking the ball, they would not have much of a chance.
